Shubha Balasubramanya

Hi there! I am Shubha, a self-taught Contemporary Abstract Artist, from Singapore. I was born and brought up in India, where I did my schooling and college. After I acquired my engineering degree, I worked as a Software Tester for many years. Although I had the mind of a tester, my heart kept drawing me to painting (pun not intended). Not long after my first child was born, I decided to return to my true calling as an artist. I stepped into the creative world of painting with no formal education, but an un-paralleled passion for colors.

My painting process starts off with the application of texture onto the canvas or paper and selection of a color scheme, based on what the texture communicates  to me. With that foundation laid, the rest of the process is guided purely by my instincts and my inner voice. I use vibrant colors in my paintings in order to trigger the energies and emotions the colors bring, to the home or place where they are installed. I believe that an artwork should engage the audience in a new and interesting way, each time it is viewed. I create pronounced texture in my work, so that the viewer is invited to take a closer look and have an experience and interaction that is completely personal. I hope you have a creative experience here at my happy place.

Thank you for stopping by. Do write to me if you'd like to share your story or know more about the artwork or the process or have any other queries. I would love to hear from you.
